Cycling in Lisbon
Bicycling in Lisbon is fantastic until you get to the hills, or cobblestones, or tram lines, or potholes, or in the way of a taxi, but the moment you feel that buttery glide on the smooth asphalt of the bike path, you are one happy cycler. Lisbon is slowly becoming a bikable city, especially along the coast of the river and up toward the ocean, and that will give you days of rewarding exploration. And there’s plenty of places to rent a bike in Lisbon, starting from 8€ – and in Cascais, you can get one for free.
Nevertheless, Lisbon streets are generally safe to cyclists and drivers tend to be conscious and respectful of cyclists’ needs. Along Lisbon’s waterfront there are around 20kms of bike lanes on flat terrain, from the City Center towards East to Parque das Nações and West to the area of Belém. If you would like to ride a bicycle in Sintra or Cascais, it is recommended you take a bicycle with you on the train from/to Lisbon.

Lisbon is the most important thing for us, without the city we wouldn't exist. It's very exciting to bike in the city, mostly its 7 hills, but it's not easy, like the city itself, it has its own character, and is set on its ways with the stubborness typical of an old city. The guides are the most important element here at Lisbon Cycle Tours, and without them what we do would not be possible, so dare to embark on this enourmous adventure through Lisbon hills with us and our electrical bicycles.
