Night Clubs in Lisbon
In the 1990s, Lisbon established a reputation as one of Europe's main clubbing cities. Things have slowed down a bit in the last few years, but whether your preference is dancing to house or to the sounds of a live band, the city provides a full range of clubs. Nightlife in Lisbon is celebrated for its trend-setting clubs and live music venues. The city is one of Europe’s liveliest party hubs, and Lisbon lets its hair down with panache. There are late bars aplenty and all sorts of restaurants, including famed fado houses. In fact, the Portuguese capital comes alive after dark.
The young and the fashionable are spoilt for choice. A plethora of chic and funky nightclubs cater for the style conscious, where looks count for everything and the drinks are served tall. For others, it’s all about the music. Lisbon is a fixture on the international concert circuit and regularly hosts some of the industry’s biggest acts in state-of-the-art arenas. Historic halls and elegant theatres cater for the more classically inclined.
There’s a hip street scene, where dozens of informal, late night bars host anything from Indie guitar bands to jazz quartets. This is great pub-crawl territory for a relatively inexpensive sojourn, where an evening out can last all night!
The major dance spots are concentrated near the river on Avenida 24 de Julho, in the docklands below 25 de Abril Bridge to the west, and across from Santa Apolonia train station to the east. Since most locals begin the night with a long dinner and bar-hopping for hours, the dancing clubs only really get going after 2AM, and no real hard-core reveler leaves before dawn. A couple of clubs in residential areas are very low-key and you must ring a bell to get in -- Fragil and Incognito. On the riverfront, Lux remains the hotspot, but there's now new competition in Comercio Square, at Ministerium Club and Lust.
It is in the heart of Lisbon’s historical center of Chiado district, with the city literally at your feet, where you’ll find the private club Silk. Its unique location, on the last floor of the highest building, allows for the breathtaking 270º panoramic view of the city, within a sophisticated, modern and luxurious ambience. Its architecture and design and the combination of its decorative elements make Silk special, recognized by the UCity Guides as the Best Rooftop Bar in the World. The terrace, invites you to lose yourself in the Lisbon skyline and enjoy a unique moment of relaxation, enhancing natural sensations, either during the day or night. It is through the careful selection of its members, their guests and partners that the Silk defines its club philosophy.
This building right on the riverbank with a large patch of sand in front of it is part of the K group, which has run some of Lisbon’s leading nightspots over the years. It comprises bar, restaurant and nightclub with various dancefloors. Here you can hear EDM, house and the like, including slightly less commercial sounds on the more alternative dancefloor.
